Proper cleaning of your cool mist diffuser keeps it running properly and extends its life!
You’ll be surprised at how much buildup can get in there, especially if you use thicker oils or have hard water. Essential oils or leftover water sitting in a diffuser can eventually corrode the unit.
Using a clean diffuser also ensures that you’re only experiencing the oils you’ve chosen today, with no unwanted overtones from yesterday!
Quick Cleaning:
Clean your diffuser after each use by wiping it out and letting it dry before using it again. For a quick refresh, diffuse Lemon essential oil for a short time. This makes it easier to clean out any residue or water lines before you wipe the diffuser.
Deep Cleaning:
I like to do this about once every 1 to 2 weeks. It’s always a great idea to take care of your investment… especially one that you use every day.
- Turn off the diffuser.
- Add a splash of white vinegar to the empty reservoir.
- Turn on the diffuser and run for 3-5 minutes.
- Drain reservoir.
- Dip a cotton swab in vinegar or Lemon essential oil and wipe out the middle ring, reservoir, lid, and mist chip.
- Rinse reservoir with water and let air dry.
Many people find it helpful to set a recurring reminder in their calendar. My reminder is set for Sundays.

Keeping a clean diffuser allows for the best possible results from your essential oils!
