Happy New Year!!
Remember the hope and anticipation we felt on New Year’s Day last year, as we looked ahead at a new year and a new decade? Well, 2020 turned out to be a more challenging and unpredictable year than many of us had faced before. There’s no doubt: It was a hard year.
But you know what? It was also a good year. Even on the darkest of days I believe we can look for the good: The lessons, new perspectives, growth, and small moments of closeness, understanding, and peace.
Maybe our dreams didn’t come true in 2020. For many it was a year of immense challenge. But as we reflect on the year that was, I encourage you not to dwell on the negative. Often New Year’s Day finds us looking back on the year and thinking about what we did, what we didn’t do, and where we’d like to go from here. Often those reflections focus on what didn’t go as planned, or what we want to change.
But what if we first focus on what went right? What if we think about our accomplishments, our victories, our best moments? What if we focus on feeling good about ourselves? Whether it was big or small, there are things that you did this year that will make you feel proud or grateful.
And now 2021 lies ahead of us. In a fresh year, we can once again wonder, contemplate, and plan. We can have new aspirations, take new actions, and find new ways.
Enjoy this day, and every day ahead. 2021 holds so much promise!
