“I thought you weren’t supposed to ingest essential oils.”
That’s true… and it’s untrue.
Let’s have a closer look.
Research has shown that internal use of medicinal grade essential oils offers unique effects that the other methods (aromatic or topical use) do not.
For example, essential oils can be used internally for the following benefits:
- Promote healthy cell function
- Aid gastrointestinal health
- Support healthy immune function
- Support respiratory system function
- Provide antioxidant support
- Assist with healthy cardiovascular system function
- Calm the nervous system
- Aid in the body’s normal cleansing activities
Those are some impressive benefits! So my question is…why WOULDN’T you use them internally?
Safety and Purity: The Brand Does Matter!
The purity of an essential oil is its most important characteristic. When an essential oil is adulterated or contaminated, it becomes less effective and can even be dangerous. Above all else, purity is doTERRA’s first priority.
Most essential oil companies do not choose to enforce high testing standards for their oils. In fact, many companies skip important steps in the testing process in order to save money or time.
To ensure that each bottle of essential oil is pure and free from contaminants or synthetic fillers, doTERRA created the CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade® protocol. The CPTG process includes a rigorous examination of every batch of oil, along with third-party testing to guarantee transparency.
So while you can feel confident ingesting the majority of doTERRA’s essential oils, this is NOT the case for almost every other brand on the market.
Most of doTERRA’s essential oils are rated for internal use. Some are not, but that’s because internal use is not their intended delivery pathway. Not only are most of doTERRA’s oils safe for internal use, but they are actually *recommended*for internal use. There are some best practices that you should know, so the best approach is to work with an Essential Oil Specialist. I’m here to answer questions!

If you have any specific health conditions or concerns, it’s always a good idea to consult your healthcare professional before use. Keep in mind that not all physicians will be familiar with or educated in essential oils.
The same goes for children: If you have any concerns, consider talking to their physician before starting essential oil use with your kids. If your physician is not open to the idea and is not open to researching, you may want to find a more open-minded one. They do exist!
