This time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve can feel a little off. The days can drift together when our regular schedules don’t apply. In the past we may have dreamed of this kind of unstructured time, but many people have had so much unstructured time in 2020 that it no longer feels like a luxury! Others have had a more regular routine in 2020 in spite of everything the year has thrown at us, but the fog of this in-between time can still be unnerving.
If you need something to bring you back to harmony and balance, try sticking to a partial routine even when it’s not strictly necessary. Get up and go to bed at your normal times, eat regular meals instead of grazing all day, and get outside for some fresh air.
Another important grounding tool is your essential oils. Being grounded means that you feel present in your own body and connected with the Earth. You feel centered and balanced even in the face of challenging circumstances. You can turn to certain oils and blends whenever you need to feel balanced, calmed, supported, and connected with real life. Pop some in your diffuser, breathe a drop from cupped hands, or dilute and apply topically for a sense of order and tranquility.
Here are some of my top recommendations for grounding oils. Many of them are tree and resin oils, reflecting the important connection between trees and the Earth. However, this is not a comprehensive list. If an oil has a grounding effect on you personally, you should use it!

- Steady
- Frankincense
- Vetiver
- Patchouli
- Cypress

So take a deep breath, set your alarm, get some fresh air, use your oils, and before you know it we will have a brand new year stretching out in front of us!
